	Subway was founded in 1965 by Fred DeLuca at the age of 17 while trying to finance his education. A friend, Peter Buck, suggested that he open a sandwich shop. The first store opened in Bridgeport, Connecticut under the name of "Pete's Submarines" and later changed to "Subway Sandwiches & Salads". In 1974, not reaching their goal of 32 stores in 10 years, they began franchising. Today there are over 15,000 Subway stores in dozens of countries around the world.
